Varndean students have raised £2,300 so far for Haiti.
Funds have been raised through a non-uniform day, cake sale and a benefit concert held on Friday 29th January. This event, organised by Y10 GCSE Music students, was a great success as it featured the school's Y10 & Y11 Jazz bands, the Samba Band, Y10 GCSE rock bands and acoustic solos - featuring a song specially composed by Mizti Want for the people of Haiti.

BTEC Theatre Makeup for Performers
For part of the BTEC course students are expected to complete units around the theme of Theatre Makeup for Performers. For this, students are required to learn about different types of make-up and how to create their own characters. The BTEC group were involved in two workshops delivered by a professional artist where they learnt skills of how to apply theatre makeup. In the first workshop they learnt how to transform each other into old people, and in the second they explored special effects such as, bruises and bullet and cut wounds (picture above). These sessions were highly successful and students will be using their knowledge to create a dance later on in the term. Nicola Holroyd
